Teofilo Filly On Top In the Oh So Sharp

First Victory | Racing Post

Impressing with her attitude when winning on debut over this course adistance 13 days ago, First Victory demonstrated the same professionalism to master this competitive line-up and provide Godolphin with more juvenile success. Breaking well from the widest draw, the bay was quickly prominent in an overall second before edging ahead passing the three-furlong pole and despite drifting right in the run to the line stayed on to hold the strong-finishing Alamode at bay. “I was a little bit concerned beforehand as the Teofilos like quicker ground, but she's done it really well,” John Ferguson said. “William [Buick] said she had plenty of boot, but with her pedigree she should get further than a mile and there is no reason why she wouldn't get a mile and a half. It's likely she'll stay here rather than go to Dubai and she's one of our more exciting fillies.” Buick added, “It was a good performance and she quickened going into the 'dip' which is always a good sign. You'd have to take her seriously for next year and she feels like she has the right speed in the right part of the race for the Guineas. Fast ground won't be a problem for her and she has a bit of size about her.” Marcus Tregoning said of the promising runner-up Alamode, “That was a good run and the way she stayed on was the best bit of it, as at one point it didn't look like she was going to finish anywhere. She's quite lazy in her work and it took her a while to pick up, but when she did she was flying and in another half a furlong she might have even got there.”
