Monroe Bay was slick from the gates and stole a march on her rivals to claim an immediate lead. Holding sway throughout, the 23-5 chance was nudged along passing the two pole and urged further clear in the closing stages to score by an three lengths from Turf Laurel (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) in impressive style. George Strawbridge’s Listen In (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}), a half to G1SW Dominant (Ire) (Cacique {Ire}), was 1 1/4 lengths further adrift in third. “This is a filly we’ve always liked and she was supposed to run at Deauville, but refused to load and we did a lot of work in the mornings,� trainer Pascal Bary commented. “Even though she was not easy today, again, and it took a while to get her in, but once she took off she showed her quality. She is not in the [G1 Prix] Marcel Boussac [at Chantilly Oct. 2], but could go next for the [G3] Prix des Reservoirs [at Deauville Oct. 19].� Monroe Bay is the latest produce and third winner, from as many foals to race, out of Listed Prix Urban Sea third Lune Rose (GB) (High Chaparral {Ire}), who is kin to three black-type performers. They include G3 Prix Penelope and G3 Prix de Flore victress Celimene (Ire) (Dr Fong), and Listed Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles winner Lunaska (Fr) (Ashkalani {Ire}), herself the dam of Luna Royale (Ire), who emulated her dam’s stakes success in the same contest, and three-time stakes placegetter Lustre (Fr) (American Post {GB}), from a family which includes GI Garden City S. heroine Alterite (Fr) (Literato {Fr}). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, €13,500.
