Honor Code spent the opening couple of furlongs this rain-soaked debut race trying to get accustomed to the sloppy conditions underneath him as favored Misconnect (Unbridled's Song), the full-brother to GSW Winslow Homer, and Jackson N Lorimer (Afleet Alex) raced heads apart through an opening quarter in :22.93 and a half in :46.03. The scopey dark bay colt, as many as 22 lengths out of it at one point, was still in a different zip code even as the rest of the field hit the head of the stretch. But when he got going, he kicked it into warp speed, charging up the inside beneath John Velazquez and striding out monstrously to score by a widening and highly impressive 4 1/2 lengths as the 3-1 second choice. Misconnect settled for second, two lengths clear of Purple Sky (Pulpit), who found some traffic in the stretch and was a promising third. Honor Code has enormous pedigree appeal, as he is a half-brother to the talented 3-year-old turfer Noble Tune (Unbridled's Song). His second dam, Serena's Tune (Mr. Prospector), is a multiple stakes-winning daughter of champion Serena's Song (Rahy) who fetched $1-million as a Keeneland July yearling in 1999. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $48,000.
