Tapizar Colt Debuts a TDN Rising Star

American Pastime | Benoit

American Pastime (Tapizar) burst on to the scene with an eye-catching 4 1/2-length victory at Santa Anita Saturday, covering six furlongs in a sizzling 1:09 flat to become the second “TDN Rising Star” of the day.

Bet down to 3-1 favoritism from a 9-2 morning-line quote, American Pastime broke on top from gate 11 and battled for control while three wide through a swift opening quarter in :21.61. Allowed to cruise into the lead with just three furlongs to race, the $135,000 KEESEP purchase floated out wide at the quarter-pole, with Cascade Kid (Smart Strike) poised to take advantage of the half-mile split in :44.64. Still under a hand ride from Kent Desormeaux, American Pastime swatted that challenger away and zipped home an ultra-impressive winner.

American Pastime's dam Ryan's Inheritance (Valid Expectations), a half-sister to GSW and MGISP Victory U. S. A. (Victory Gallop), is responsible for a juvenile filly by Paynter and a yearling filly by Awesome Again. The winner also hails from the family of MGSW and GISP turfer Foresta (Alydar).
