Souper Tapit had plenty of buzz coming into his debut and did not disappoint, overcoming a slow start and a wide trip to gamely prevail and earn 'TDN Rising Star' status at Fair Grounds. Sporting an imposing worktab, including a best-of-136 bullet half-mile in :47 4/5 here Jan. 14, the chestnut was bet to 23-10 favoritism and broke dead last. Running second-last down the backside behind strong splits of :23.38 and :47.06, Souper Tapit started to get rolling approaching the far turn and made a big, five-wide move to take the lead soon after straightening for home. Challenged by Multiplier (The Factor) in the final furlong, the Live Oak homebred dug in resolutely and turned that foe back by a neck. The winner is the first foal out of 2007 GI Mother Goose S. heroine Zo Impressive, a half-sister to GISW Zaftig (Gone West) out of another GISW in Zoftig (Cozzene). Zo Impressive has a 2-year-old Speightstown colt named Zo Zo Souper and was bred back to that sire last spring. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,600.
