Wayne Lukas has a joke he likes to tell about what it was like in the early days of building the first mega-stable. The original `super trainer' would tell new employees, “Now, we're only going to work half days.”
He takes a beat to let the thought set in before delivering the punch line. “Twelve hours,” he says with a smile. “I told them what they did with the other 12 was their business.”
