Forty-five university students from colleges including UCD, Trinity, NUI Maynooth, University of Limerick, DIT and Griffith College, took part in Horse Racing Ireland's 'Go Racing Student Society' industry education day on Tuesday. The initiative featured a behind the scenes look at trainer Gordon Elliott's yard in County Meath followed by an afternoon's racing at nearby Fairyhouse.

Students got to witness first-hand the work carried out by Gordon Elliott and his team on a daily basis. They were also introduced to stable stars such as Outlander (Ire), Apple's Jade (Fr), Death Duty (Ire) and Samcro (Ire). The HRI 'Go Racing Student Society' was launched in 2016, an initiative to build on the growing interest in horse racing among students and create opportunities to experience the sport in greater depth. It is open to anyone currently in third level education. Joining the society is free and trips are discounted and to register visit www.goracing.ie/get-into-racing/student-racing/ for details.
