Strong Start To Goffs UK Sale

The Goffs UK January Sale at Doncaster got off to a promising start on Tuesday, with figures well up on last year's renewal. Two six-figure lots highlighted trade and drove the aggregate of £1,429,600 (up 213%). The average climbed 106% to £12,879, while the median was up 40% to £7,000. The clearance rate was a strong 87%, with 111 sold from 128 offered.

A pair of offerings made £100,000 to lead the way. First up was lot 78G, the 5-year-old gelding Minella Encore (Ire) (King's Theatre {Ire}), who was a supplementary entry from Milestone Stables. The bay, a 10-length winner of a maiden point-to-point last out, failed to reach his reserve in the ring but was later bought privately by Eamon Phelan for £100,000. Also hitting that mark was an unnamed Flemensfirth 3-year-old colt from the dispersal of the late Graham Roach. Lot 114, who is a full-brother to the Grade 2-placed Sizing Gold (Ire), was bought by Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls.
