ST PATRICK'S DAY (c, 2, Pioneerof the Nile— Littleprincessemma, by Yankee Gentleman), a full-brother to Triple Crown hero American Pharoah (Horse of the Year, Ch. 2yo & Ch 3yo, MGISW, $8,650,300), had to settle for second behind stablemate Zatter (Midnight Lute) after pressing the pace in his six-furlong debut at Del Mar Aug. 20. The 4-5 favorite quickly joined Eskimo Roses (Eskendereya) on the front end and they were three in a line down the backstretch through a quarter in :21.97. The favorite inched away after a half in :44.92 and turned back a determined Eskimo Roses late before just lasting by a half-length over the late-closing $1.05-million OBS March graduate Instilled Regard (Arch). The winner is also a full-sister to last year's GI Del Mar Debutante runner-up American Cleopatra (GISP). Jane Lyon's Summer Wind Farm purchased Littleprincessemma, with St Patrick's Day in utero, for $2.1 million at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton November sale, just months before American Pharoah swept through the Triple Crown. Lyon sold St Patrick's Day privately as a yearling last spring. The mare has a yearling filly by Tapit and produced a colt by Pioneerof the Nile this year before being bred back to Tapit. American Cleopatra, still owned by the Zayat family, was bred to Uncle Mo this year. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $48,000.
