COPPER TOWN (c, 3, Speightstown–Dynazaper {SW, $139,835}, by Ghostzapper) made good on the 'TDN Rising Star' distinction he earned last time to drub a formidable foe and stamp himself as one to surely watch for the rest of the year and into next season. Right to the front, the 8-5 second choice doled out splits of :23.50 and :46.00 with even-money Patternrecognition (Adios Charlie) in hot pursuit. Shrugging off that one's advances spinning for home, he was ridden out by John Velazquez to cross the wire some six lengths to the good in 1:41.08. Patternrecognition, a debut winner at Aqueduct in April, has now finished second to 'Rising Stars' in each of his next four tries: MGSW Coal Front (Stay Thirsty), last week's GI Vosburgh Invitational S. hero Takaful (Bernardini) and Copper Town's stablemate Mr. Crow (Tapizar). Copper Town, meanwhile, was second to the since unseen 'Rising Star' Blue Buff (Unbridled's Song) at Gulfstream Feb. 25. He resurfaced to cruise by 3 3/4 lengths with a 91 Beyer Speed Figure going a flat mile here Sept. 10. A grandson of GSW Broad Dynamite (Broad Brush), Dynazaper's half-brother by Pioneerof the Nile brought$825,000 from Stonestreet Stables. His dam produced a Bernardini filly this past breeding season and was most recently bred to Bodemeister. Lifetime Record: 3-2-1-0, $99,180.
