REDESDALE (c, 4, Speightstown–Harpia {GSW, $294,389}, by Danzig), a blue-blooded bargain at last year's Keeneland January sale, fought off pace pressure and kicked clear in the lane to remain undefeated at Fair Grounds. A first-out victor May 26 at Churchill, the bay was shelved for nearly eight months before returning with an allowance tally over track and trip Jan. 20. Made the 4-5 favorite to go three-for-three here, Redesdale broke sharply from his rail draw and led narrowly through a sharp quarter in :21.86. Speightsong (Speightstown) drew on even terms with the favorite leaving behind a half in :45.24, but Redesdale was shaken up at the eighth pole and swiftly kicked away from his pursuer to score by four lengths in 1:09.79. The winner is a half to First Word (Chester House), SP, $281,665. His dam is a full-sister to GISW and foundational sire Danehill, as well as GSW's Eagle Eyed and Shibboleth. Her most recent produce is a juvenile colt by Candy Ride (Arg) named Conurbation. To read more from TDN about Redesdale and co-owner Chad Schumer, click here. Sales History: $18,000 3yo '16 KEEJAN.
