Two-time champion and 'TDN Rising Star' Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro) fired a bullet at Santa Anita Thursday morning (5f, :59.00, 1/36) as she prepares to return to the races in either that venue's GI Beholder Mile or Belmont's GI Ogden Phipps S. a week later. The Fox Hill Farm colorbearer was last seen falling a nose short of Beholder (Henny Hughes) herself in the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff last fall. “She worked really good,” said regular rider Mike Smith, who was aboard for the breeze. “I worked her with company, sat off a couple of lengths, and she just cruised up to her and galloped on out really, really nice.”
