Successful on his third start at in September, Soleil Marin followed up with confidence bolstered over the same 9 1/2-furlong trip at Deauville a month later and signed off his progressive juvenile campaign with an impressive seven-length success in a 10-furlong conditions event here in November. Allowed to bowl to the head of affairs from the outset by Pierre-Charles Boudot, the bay faced little threat once the favourite Vargar (Fr) (Azamour {Ire}) had begun to wilt in early straight and was pushed out to secure another comfortable success for his owner-breeder and trainer.
Soleil Marin is out of the modest maiden Sousmarine, who ran once for the Fabre stable for her owner-breeders the Wertheimers before joining the broodmare band of Elisabeth Fabre. Her dam Underwater, who was runner-up in the G2 Prix de Malleret, is a daughter of Sea Hill (Seattle Slew) which links her to the afternoon's TDN Rising Star Plumatic (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). Sea Hill produced a Malleret winner in the fellow Fabre trainee Legerete (Rahy), whose son Pilote (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) also performed admirably for the stable when winning the Listed Prix Matchem and finishing second in the G2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano and G2 Prix Eugene Adam. Underwater's half-sister Icelips (Unbridled) was responsible for three black-type winners headed by the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains hero and sire Falco, while the highly influential fourth dam Featherhill (Fr) (Lyphard) is a half to the champion Indian Rose (Fr) (General Holme) and sires Vert Amande and Le Nain Jaune (Fr). Sousmarine has a 2-year-old filly by Shamardal named Setsuko (Fr) to come.
