So Who's the Leading First-Crop Sire? American Pharoah

“I totally believe in American Pharoah and believe at the end of the year he may be the leading freshman sire. To start with, you have to look at the strength of the crop, the quality and the quantity. You wouldn't typically expect them to be early 2-year-olds, but he was a good 2-year-old himself. He got sidelined and then came back and did what he did. I really like the depth of these horse and the couple that we have have trained extremely well.

The physicality of the American Pharoahs is superior. When you were appraising them as yearlings and just on the shank, they really stood out. And they followed through in the sales ring. With the couple that we train, the one trait that I can see is that their stride and locomotion is pretty effortless. They seem to have really keen minds and a willingness to train and move forward without much stress, If they have the desire to do it, which I think they will, I think American Pharoah has a shot at being a great stallion

Wicked Strong is another horse that has me a little interested so far as his ability to produce precocious, early types. They look that part. They seem to be sharp with quick steps. I don't know if you'd expect a stallion like Wicked Strong to be an early type sire or produce precocious horses, but from what I've seen, and the few we've trained, I think he has a chance to be a nice early 2 year-old sire. Bayern is another horse that has me interested. They are a classy group. They may show up as 2-year-olds, but will probably go on to be better as 3-year-olds. Constitution is another sleeper to keep an eye on.”
