Sinhalite Pads Her Resume in Rose S.

Sinhalite after her Oaks triumph | Horsephotos

By

Sinhalite (Jpn), winner of the G1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) last out at Tokyo May 22, added another win to her ledger in the Kansai Telecasting Corp.Sho Rose S. at Hanshin Sunday. Sent off at 3-5, the daughter of GI Del Mar Oaks heroine Singhalese (GB) was well positioned in the rear third of the field through a half mile in :47.4, as Crocosmia (Jpn) showed the way with At the Seaside (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}) off her flank keeping a close watch. The former still held a narrow advantage after 1000 metres in :59.8 and she cut the corner and set sail for home with only a half-mile remaining. With eight foes yet to pass in upper stretch, Sinhalite engaged top gear up the center of the course and flew home to nip the pacesetter by the slimmest of margins. Kaiserball (Jpn) enjoyed a ground-saving tow in fourth for the majority of the running and made a stirring move in between horses in upper stretch, but couldn't match strides with the top two and settled for third.

Off the mark at Kyoto last October, Sinhalite quickly added the Kobai S. there in her sophomore bow Jan. 17. Defeating the reopposing Jeweler (Jpn) (Victoire Pisa {Jpn}) in the G3 Tulip Sho going 1600 metres at Hanshin Mar. 5, Sinhalite suffered her only loss to date, running second in the G1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) to Jeweler at that venue Apr. 10. Sinhalite returned to winning ways extended to 2400 metres in the G1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) May 22.

Pedigree Notes:

The best foal of her Grade I stakes-winning dam, who also placed in the GIII Pucker Up S. and the GI American Oaks Invitational S., Sinhalite has an unraced 2-year-old half-sister by Daiwa Major (Jpn) named Mirissa (Jpn) and a yearling half-brother by Orfevre (Jpn). Second dam Baize (GB) (Efisio {GB}) took third in the G3 Molecomb S. in England and also produced SW Docofthebay (Docsider) and MGSP Kid Edward (Ire) (Singspiel {Ire}). G1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club third-place finisher Branderburgo (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) is also under the second dam, while this is the extended family of G1 Darley July Cup hero and young sire Mayson (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}).
