Showcasing's Advertise Scoops the July

Advertise takes the July S. | Racing Post

Boasting the best form after being second to Calyx (GB) (Kingman {GB}) in the G2 Coventry S. at Royal Ascot June 19, Phoenix Thoroughbred Limited's Advertise (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) duly justified 11-10 favouritism in straightforward fashion under Frankie Dettori in Thursday's G2 Arqana July S. at Newmarket. Held up with one behind early as Ballydoyle ensured a strong pace, the bay was delivered to lead approaching the furlong pole and readily assert for a two-length defeat of Konchek (GB) (Lethal Force {Ire}), with Charming Kid (GB) (Charm Spirit {Ire}) a neck away in third. “He's a lovely horse and he won with a bit in hand,” his rider said. “He has a turn of foot and I was very impressed–the key to this horse is a strong pace and he got that today.” Trainer Martyn Meade added, “He's done everything right at home since Ascot, but you never know until they get to the racetrack. He takes a bit of time to get going and we were tossing the idea around about going for the Superlative, as seven furlongs is his trip, but he can cope with this. He is pretty versatile. It is not obvious on breeding, but he will get further.”

Clive Cox said of Konchek, “He clearly appreciated another furlong. He has got the most amazing temperament. The winner brought the best form to the table, so I'm very pleased. The [G2] Richmond [at Goodwood Aug. 2] would be most likely for him next. He prefers a drier rather than a wetter surface.” Richard Fahey said of Charming Kid, “That looked a warm race today and I would say the winner is decent. I thought for two strides we had him. I wouldn't be afraid to drop him back in trip. I've put him in the [G2] Gimcrack and there is the [Listed] Roses at York. There is the Richmond and [G3] Molecomb at Goodwood, as he has plenty of speed.”

Advertise, who had “won” the race on his side at the Royal meeting only to find the latest Juddmonte sensation ahead on the stand's rail, had previously done enough when scoring on debut over this trip at Newbury May 18 to entice Phoenix Thoroughbreds into action. In the backwash here were the TDN Rising Star Legends of War (Scat Daddy) and Ballydoyle's G2 Railway S. winner Van Beethoven (Scat Daddy), so the form looks solid and in all probability he has already done enough to gain a place at stud. The dam, who also has a yearling filly by Dream Ahead and a colt foal by Lethal Force (Ire), is connected to two others who made a mark as 2-year-olds in Saayerr (GB) (Acclamation {GB}) who was successful in the G2 Richmond S. and Ornate (GB) (Bahamian Bounty {GB}) who finished runner-up in the G2 Flying Childers S. The third dam is Heart of Joy (Lypheor {GB}), who captured the GII Palomar H., GIII San Simeon H. and GIII Las Cienegas Breeders' Cup H. after winning the G3 Nell Gwyn S. and finishing runner-up in both the G1 English and Irish 1000 Guineas. Her relatives include the sires Unbridled Energy (Unbridled's Song) and Inexplicable (Miswaki).
