The recent talk in Britain about the perceived lurch towards speed at the expense of stamina is certainly an interesting one. Our table lists proven sires available to breeders in Britain and Ireland in 2017 whose stamina index is 9.5 furlongs and higher and who have achieved a ratio of black-type winners of 4.5% or higher. Yes, there are only seven to choose from. More startling is the fact that there are another 13 who meet the same criteria who started out in Britain and Ireland and who through lack of demand moved abroad. France claimed Dalakhani (who is now retired), Motivator, Manduro, Authorized and Rail Link. The recently deceased Hurricane Run went to Germany, Duke of Marmalade to South Africa, while Beat Hollow, Champs Elysees, Doyen, Dylan Thomas, Mount Nelson and Shirocco are all at National Hunt studs for 2017.
