Shimakawa Buys Deep Impact Colt for ᆬ170 Million

Arriving at the Northern Horse Park just moments beforehand, natural foods entrepreneur Takaya Shimakawa jumped into action immediately, grabbing an elegant darkᅠbay colt by Deep Impactᅠ(Jpn) for ᆬ170 million (about $1,666,667) early in the July 8 session. “I think I’m very lucky to make it,” said a smiling Shimakawa while surrounded by Japanese media. “This is a Derby-type horse.” Consigned by Katsumi Yoshida’s Northern Farm, the colt is the first foal of American GI winner Persistently (Smoke Glacken), a granddaughter of Phipps Stable’s champion Heavenly Prize (Seeking the Gold).
