Shadai Buys Dam Of Qemah

Teruya Yoshida's Shadai Farm has bought Kartica (GB) (Rainbow Quest–Cayman Sunset {Ire}, by Night Shift), the dam of this year's G1 Coronation S. and G1 Prix Rothschild winner Qemah (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), according to Racing Post. The deal to buy the 9-year-old mare was brokered by agent Patrick Barbe.

“After Qemah ran third in [last year's G1] Prix Marcel Boussac, we discussed it together with Patrick, whom I have known for a long time,” Kartica's former owner Pierre Talvard told Racing Post. “We then came to a deal after Qemah won the [G3] Prix de la Grotte in April.”

Kartica has an as-yet unraced 2-year-old named Niedziela (Ire) (Henrythenavigator) who was retained by Talvard–who also owns Kartica's half-sister Lady Gorgeous (GB) (Compton Place {GB})–and is in training in Ireland. Her yearling colt by Lawman (Fr) is set to go under the hammer at Arqana's August yearling sale, and this year she produced a colt foal by Charm Spirit (Ire). She is in foal to Gleneagles.
