MALAGACY (c, 3, Shackleford–Classiest Gem, by Dehere) turned some heads with a dominant 15-length first-out graduation at Gulfstream Jan. 4–good for 'TDN Rising Star' honors–and backed that effort up with a seven-length triumph in his first start facing winners Sunday. The chestnut was hard sent from the break, but ceded control to Wait (Distorted Humor–Wait a While) through a quarter-mile in :22.10. Locked on to that one's outer flank through a half in :45.01, Malagacy could wait no further and moved to seize command coming off the turn. The colt pulled away with complete authority in the lane, romping home as much the best. Tale of Silence (Tale of the Cat), outfooted early, rallied late to finish a distant second. The winner's unraced dam Classiest Gem, acquired by Twilight Stables for $17,000 at the 2014 KEENOV sale, is also represented by a 2015 full-sister to the winner named Classy Shackles and a 2016 Revolutionary gelding. Classiest Gem is a half-sister to 2010 Canadian champion older mare Impossible Time (Not Impossible {Ire}). For more on Malagacy's debut win, click here. Sales History: $45,000 Wlg '14 KEENOV; $130,000 Ylg '15 OBSAUG; $190,000 2yo '16 EASMAY. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $46,800. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
