Shackleford Firster Goes All the Way at Los Al

Shackleford | Matt Goins

+TRUMPER (g, 2, Shackleford–Dixieland Bull {SP}, by Holy Bull) showed good speed from the rail and never looked back in an impressive debut score at Los Alamitos. Tipping his hand with a sharp five-furlong bullet in :59 flat (1/14) from the gate here Aug. 31, the $85,000 OBS April pickup was made a 39-10 proposition. Hopping a bit at the start, the chestnut nevertheless broke away from the field early and led clear through a :22.28 quarter. Traveling well on the turn while others were driven behind him, the gelding kicked clear outside the eighth pole and hit the wire four lengths to the good in a sharp 1:03.20. Whoodat (Ghostzapper) was clearly second-best. The victor has a yearling half-brother by Munnings and his dam foaled a Fast Anna colt this season before returning to that sire. Sales History: $10,000 Wlg '15 KEENOV; $25,000 Ylg '16 FTKJUL; $85,000 2yo '17 OBSAPR. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $27,000. O-Edward C.
