Hammered down to 4-5 favoritism off a best-of-80 half-mile breeze in :46 3/5 here Apr. 15, the $230,000 KEESEP buy seized the early advantage, ticking off opening splits of :24.16 and :47.61 with a host of pursuers hot on his heels. The chestnut put some distance on all but Tapsolute (Tapit) approaching the far turn, but quickly dismissed that rival in the lane, cruising clear to a 6 3/4-length victory. Meantime was runner-up to a “TDN Rising Star” worthy performance from subsequent GII Louisiana Derby runner-up Patch (Union Rags) going a mile at Gulfstream Feb. 18 and that form of that race was further flattered when third-place finisher Take Your Guns (Blame) graduated in Lexington Apr. 15.
