'Secret' Superior in Fernhill

Whispered Secret | Racing And Sports

The opening race on the second The Championships card, the Listed Fernhill H. for juveniles (video), went the way of Whispered Secret (Aus) (High Chaparral {Ire}). Racing three deep and three from the rear, the $4.40 shot began to make inroads toward the front turning for home in the 1600-metre feature. Still well off the fence quarter mile from the winning post, the chalk reached the front 100 metres out and held off the closing Godolphin's Toga Picta (Aus) (Lonhro {Aus}) to win by 1 1/4 lengths. 'TDN Rising Star' Earth Angel (Aus) (Animal Kingdom), the first winner for her sire, ran on to take fourth. Third at first asking in a Rosehill 1200-metre feature Dec. 24, Whispered Secret reported home fourth switched to Beaumont Mar. 11. The James Cummings trainee was off the mark going 1350 metres at Newcastle Mar. 25.
