Scope Excuse For Fair Eva

Fair Eva (GB) (Frankel {GB}), fifth as the third choice in Sunday's G1 Qipco 1000 Guineas, exited the Classic with an “abnormal amount of debris in her trachea,” according to trainer Roger Charlton.

“I thought she traveled really well throughout the race and then when [James Doyle] pulled her out, there wasn't as much response as we'd hoped for,” said Charlton. “She blew very hard after the race and when we got back to the racecourse stables we scoped her. One of the senior vets from Newmarket reported that she had an abnormal amount of debris in her trachea–that's mud and grass. We know the ground was fast, so it had to have been a bit of kickback. It was very bad luck to have got it. She obviously inhaled it.”

“The vet said it would have affected her performance,” Charlton added. “Whether it affected her performance by half a length or two lengths, we will never know, but she's possibly better than that. We'll see in the future.”

Fair Eva, a Juddmonte homebred, won last year's G3 Princess Margaret Juddmonte S. and was beaten as the favourite in both the G2 Lowther S. and G2 Rockfel S. Charlton said he is keen to give the chestnut another chance over a mile, and she holds entries in the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas on May 28 and the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot on June 23 over that trip.
