MENDELSSOHN (c, 2, Scat DaddyLeslie's Lady {SW-US, $187,014}, by Tricky Creek), a $3million KEESEP half-brother to the 11-times grade one winner Beholder (Henny Hughes) and the GI Hollywood Futurity-winning sire Into Mischief, was eighth on debut over seven furlongs here July 15 and started out in front under Ryan Moore. Despite giving away ground by veering markedly left from the furlong pole, the 5-4 favourite had enough in reserve to score by a length from Andesh (Ire) (Medicean {GB}). “He was green here the first day, but was still very green here,” Aidan O'Brien said. “He'll probably take another run ortwo before he starts to click into gear mentally, but Ryan was very happy with him. He was looking at everything, but he's a horse who notices everything and he's a bit babyish. Coming up there in front would have done him the world of good and hopefully he'll progress. In an ideal world, we'd prefer not to go into a stakes race next if he is that green and he could go a level lower at the minute. He's a lovely big colt and everything is right with him.” Aside from the amazing four-times champion Beholder, $6,156,600, and Into Mischief, GISW-US, $597,080, the stakes winner Leslie's Lady is also the second dam of the GSP Harry's Holiday (Harlan's Holiday). Her 2017 colt is by Medaglia d'Oro, while she has been bred to American Pharoah. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $13,839. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
