Daddy is a Legend followed her impressive last out graduation with a late charging victory in the Jimmy Durante S. Saturday. The 2-1 chalk bided her time near the back as Just a Smidge (Into Mischief), who was making her turf debut in this spot, showed the way through an opening quarter in :23.34. She maintained that position as Fatale Bere (Fr) (Pedro the Great) eagerly tugged her way to the front, clocking a half in :48.04. With plenty of work left to do entering the lane, Daddy is a Legend swung out wide to launch her bid, mowing down her competition for another decisive victory.
“She gave us a couple of scares, but we'll take it,” said Austin Trites, assistant to winning trainer George Weaver. “For a split second, around the turn, I was very worried. But when [Joe Bravo] tipped her out and she got in the clear, she came home very well.”
“She's a big filly,” said Bravo. “She's a special one, too. I was following Chad Brown's horse [Data Dependent] around there and when she went I went right behind her. When we hit the stretch, I tipped her [Daddy Is a Legend] out and it was bye-bye. It was her race from there.”
Fifth on debut at Saratoga Aug. 6, Daddy is a Legend finished second next out at Belmont Sept. 16 behind a “TDN Rising Star”-worthy performance from Rushing Fall (More Than Ready), who went on to captured the GIII Jessamine S. and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. The dark bay earned the “TDN Rising Star” moniker herself next out at Keeneland Oct. 27 after flying late to earn her diploma going nine panels on the grass.

Daddy is a Legend is out of the unraced mare Randie's Legend (Benchmark), a half-sister to MSW Eternal Rule (Tribal Rule) and GSW Frumious (Grindstone).
