NICKNAME (f, 2, Scat Daddy–Nina Fever {MSP, $216,517}, by Borrego), fourth behind 'TDN Rising Star' Rachel's Valentina (Bernardini–Rachel Alexandra) in her Aug. 2 unveiling over track and trip, was pounded down to 4-5 this time and did not disappoint. Away well, the dark bay was headed by fellow second timer Sky My Sky (Bernardini), but punched back to travel on even terms with that foe along the rail through splits of :22.40 and :45.47. Second choice J La Tache (Harlan's Holiday) ranged up to challenge that pair into the lane, but Nickname had the most left in her reserves, and kicked away for a commanding 3 1/2-length victory, scoring a natural double for her sire, who was represented by GII With Anticipation S. winner Azar one race earlier. Sky My Sky held second over J La Tache. Nickname is the first foal to race out of MSP Nina Fever, who was claimed for $40,000 out of her final start at Keeneland in 2011. She produced a Cape Blanco (Ire) colt in 2014 and a Stay Thirsty filly earlier this year before returning to Scat Daddy. These connections will be represented in Saturday's GI Spinaway S. by Constellation (Bellamy Road), who bested J La Tache by 4 1/4 lengths in her Aug. 9 unveiling to earn the 'Rising Star' distinction.
