Trainer Mark Casse unveils first-time starter Mine That Star (Pioneerof the Nile), a $775,000 KEESEP purchase by John Oxley. The bay is out of Mining My Own (Smart Strike), famously responsible for Mine That Bird (Birdstone), the championship 2-year-old colt in Canada in 2008 before returning the next season to annex the GI Kentucky Derby and finish second and third, respectively, in the GI Preakness and GI Belmont S. Also representing the sire is Ashaar, a $650,000 KEESEP purchase for Shadwell Stable.
