Sarah Sis 'Masters' Competition at Presque Isle

Sarah Sis reaffirmed her affinity for synthetic tracks with a wire-to-wire score in the GII Presque Isle Masters S. in Erie Monday night. The win was the fifth graded stakes success of the dark bay's career, and her second of 2016.

Conditioned by Ingrid Mason for owner Joe Ragsdale, Sarah Sis captured the GIII Honeybee S., the GIII Iowa Oaks and the GII Raven Run S. during her 10-race campaign, competing solely on dirt. The filly was offered at as a racing/broodmare prospect at Fasig-Tipton November, and ultimately RNA'd for $1.2 million. Sarah Sis returned to the winner's circle in her fifth start of 2016 in the GIII Chicago H. going seven furlongs on Arlington's all-weather track June 25. The daughter of Sharp Humor was well-beaten in two tries back on dirt at Saratoga, running fifth in the GII Honorable Miss H. July 27 and ninth in the GI Ballerina S. Aug. 27. Despite her formidable record over synthetic tracks, she was let go at double-digit odds in the contentious Masters.

Away in good order, the speedy filly went straight to the front under Florent Geroux and showed the way through a measured quarter-mile in :23.89. Stepping on the gas a bit as she came under pressure through a half in :46.66, Sarah Sis cornered for home with a clear advantage. The 4-year-old had just enough gas left in the tank to hold off a late surge from Living the Life, who had won each of the two previous renewals of the Masters.

Pedigree Notes:

A $10,000 Keeneland September yearling turned $20,000 OBS June 2-year-old, Sarah Sis hails from the extended family of MGSW & GISP Isitingood (Crusader Sword).
