Racing at Aintree Thursday concluded with the inaugural Goffs UK Aintree Sale, featuring 24 select jumpers in training and headed by Samcro (Ire) (Germany), who was sold to join the stable of Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer Gordon Elliott for £335,000.

Mags O'Toole, the regular buyer for Michael O'Leary's Gigginstown House Stud, conducted the bidding on the winner from Saturday's Monksgrange point-to-point meeting in Ireland. Bred by Douglas Taylor, the 4-year-old gelding had previously been bought back at €95,000 at last year's Goffs Land Rover Sale.

O'Toole said, “Gordon absolutely loved the horse. You have to pay that sort of price for a horse that good.”

A total of £2,170,000 was accrued in just over an hour, as 24 lots passed through the makeshift ring in the Aintree winner's enclosure, with 21 sold at an average price of £103,333.

Bloodstock agent Tom Malone had bought the top lot at Tattersalls Ireland's Breeze-up Sale at Ascot on Wednesday and made the trip north to Liverpool to sign for point-to-point and bumper winner Give Me A Copper (Ire) (Presenting {GB}) at £270,000 while standing alongside champion trainer Paul Nicholls.

Major jumps owner Roger Brookhouse went to £210,000 for winning 5-year-old point-to-pointer Black Op (Ire) (Sandmason {GB}), while David Redvers, who had been present at the Ascot breeze-up Wednesday with Sheikh Fahad, but kept his hand in his pockets, signed for Carter McKay (GB) (Martaline {GB}), a winner between the flags at Ballynoe on Sunday, at £160,000. Sheik Fahad's hunter-chaser Current Event (Fr) (Muhtathir {GB}) finished fourth in the Crabbie's Fox Hunters' Chase at Aintree earlier in the day.

Also changing hands was Grand National runner Black Thunder (Fr) (Malinas {Ger}), who was bought for £90,000 by Robert Waley-Cohen to be ridden in Saturday's big race by his son Sam, a leading amateur rider who has previously finished runner-up in the National aboard Oscar Time (Ire) (Oscar {Ire}).
