Kevin Ryan is at a loss to explain the poor showing of Brando (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) in the G1 32Red.com Sprint Cup S. at Haydock on Saturday. The 5-year-old was strong in the market for the six furlong event having won the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville last month and with ground conditions to suit but he could never get competitive eventually finishing ninth of the eleven runners behind the easy winner Harry Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}). “He's fine. He was great coming into the race but for whatever reason he just didn't turn up on Saturday,” Ryan said on Monday. “He had a bad experience at that course a few years ago when he won a handicap there, he burst a blood vessel, whether that was the case, he just didn't seem himself. He's home safe and sound and that's the main thing.”
