Romans Colts Breeze at Belmont

Brody's Cause | Coady

Brody's Cause (Giant's Causeway) and Cherry Wine (Paddy O'Prado), who will both represent trainer Dale Romans in the GI Belmont S. June 11, got a feel for Big Sandy while putting in their final works for the “Test of a Champion” Saturday morning in Elmont.

First on the main track shortly after the renovation break was GI Preakness S. runner-up and “TDN Rising Star” Cherry Wine, who breezed five furlongs in 1:00.12 (4/24) with exercise rider Faustino Aguilar aboard.

Dual Grade I-winner Brody's Cause, most recently seventh in the GI Kentucky Derby May 7, hit the track shortly after, covering three furlongs in :37.11 (6/19) under regular jockey Luis Saez.

“I was pleased with the way they both worked,” said Romans. “They both showed good energy. They came back to the barn happy. We just want to sharpen them both up. By this time, they've been on the Triple Crown trail a long time. They are fit horses, and we just want them sharp and ready to roll.”
