'TDN Rising Star' Lady Shipman added another dominant win to her already substantial resume, breaking the course record for 5 1/2 furlongs and reaffirming herself as a force to be reckoned with in the turf sprint division. The filly earned 'Rising Star' status after easily annexing her first start over the lawn at Gulfstream Park West last November and won three consecutive races following that effort, including Pimlico's Stormy Blues S. Apr. 18. The speedy chestnut bounced back from a third-place finish in Belmont's seven-furlong Wait A While S. May 16 with a pair of wins at Monmouth in the June 6 Crank It Up S. and the July 12 Klassy Briefcase S. Recently victorious in the course-and-distance Coronation Cup S. facing sophomores Aug. 3, she was tabbed as the heavy favorite in this spot and did not disappoint. Lady Shipman was away from the gate in good order and took back to track a hard-sent Tahnee (Where's the Ring) through a quarter-mile in :21.86. Sent up to seize control on the turn, the filly showed her talent as she romped home well clear of the classy Free as a Bird.The final time of 1:00.46 eclipsed the previous track record of 1:00.66. The winner has a juvenile full-sister, Just Talkin. “She was impressive today and she's been pretty impressive every time, to be honest,” said winning trainer Kathleen O'Connell. “She seems like she's always got more in the tank. She handles herself well, especially for a 3-year-old. I asked Irad [Ortiz Jr.]to use his own judgment. He's a good rider. She sat off the pace [in the Jan. 27 OBS Sprint S.] so it's not like she has to be in front. She's got a great mind.
