South America's top-rated horse Puerto Escondido (Arg) (Hurricane Cat), winner of Saturday's G1 Gran Premio Miguel A. Martínez de Hoz at San Isidro in Argentina, suffered a tendon injury in his left front foot and will be sidelined for at least five months, according to trainer Pablo Sahagian.

“I'm very sad with what happened to the horse,” Sahagian said of the Stud Facundito colorbearer. “I think he should be the best on the planet if he could win with that injury. The ultrasound was not good and now we have to stop, wait for the rest and wait to see if he will be able to train again.”

Puerto Escondido notched three consecutive victories and was being pointed toward the May 25 Gr.1 Gran Premio, a qualifier for the GI Breeders' Cup Turf.

“There is no other way to wait until he recovers and start working again,” Sahagian said. “It happened in the final 200 meters.”

Sahagian placed the injury in perspective, noting, “After the great joys, sadness usually comes…Puerto Escondido is a super horse [and] with this, I believe it even more.”
