Public Can Decide Curragh Winners

The 2017 Curragh Racing Awards in association with Tipperary Crystal and Kildare Village will take place Oct.17 and for the first time the event will include two categories to be decided by public vote. The annual event, which was first introduced in 2011 celebrates notable successes at The Curragh and the public can have an input into who will win this year's Leading Training Performance and Leading Riding Performance with five nominees in each category. The nominees are:

Leading Training Performance of 2017

  • Gordon Elliott for his handling of Beckford (GB)
  • Aidan O'Brien for winning 4 of the 5 Irish Classics
  • Joe Murphy for triple Curragh winner Silverkode (Ire)
  • Denis Hogan for two time Curragh Premier H. winner Tithonus (Ire)
  • John Gosden for G1 Darley Irish Oaks winner Enable (GB)

Leading Riding Performance of 2017

  • Seamie Heffernan for his ride on Capri (Ire) in the Irish Derby
  • Kevin Manning for Clongowes (Ire) in the Silken Thomas & Locke 13 H.
  • Donnacha O'Brien for Happily (Ire) in Moyglare Stud S.
  • Pat Smullen for Shamreen (Ire) in Moyglare 'Jewels' Blandford S.
  • Chris Hayes for My Silver Nails (Ire) in the Paddy Power Onside App Nursery

Voting is now open and can be done online here. Voting closes Oct. 13 and the award winners will be announced on the night. Anyone who places a vote will be in with the chance to win two places to attend the awards night.
