Pricey Colt Becomes Sky Kingdom's First Winner at Del Mar

WRECKING CREW (c, 2, Sky Kingdom–Truelladeville, by Yes It's True) became the first winner for his freshman sire (by Empire Maker), overcoming a bit of a slow start to win clear. Awkwardly into stride, the scopey dark bay was soon into third and was content to stalk dueling pacesetters into the turn. Ambling up to join the fray without really being asked three deep nearing the entrance to the lane, the 2-5 chalk hit the front three-sixteenths from home and was never in danger from there as Tizamagician (Tiznow) whittled the margin down to 1 3/4 lengths at the wire. An $18,000 KEENOV weanling, Wrecking Crew made for a solid pinhooking score when hammering for $115,000 at FTKJUL last summer. But the best was yet to come, as he was one of two to breeze in :9 4/5 for this year's Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale and fetched $875,000 from these connections. Sky Kingdom raced for this breeder and did his best work over 12 furlongs, winning back-to-back renewals of the GIII Tokyo City Cup while also placing third in the 10-furlong GI Hollywood Gold Cup. The winner's Ontario-bred dam was exported to Korea in late 2017. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $36,600. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
