Poet's Voice's Poet's Word is a Fifth Glorious S. Winner for Sir Michael Stoute

Poet's Word, who won a handicap at this meeting last year, closed his sophomore term with a Sept. 8 handicap second at Doncaster and opened this campaign with another handicap score at Chelmsford Apr. 13. Lining up here off a runner-up finish in Chester's May 11 Huxley S., he provided trainer Sir Michael Stoute with a fifth renewal by recording a first black-type score in game fashion. The bay stalked the pace in fourth initially before taking a share of third at halfway. Taking closer order in the straight to launch his bid approaching the quarter-mile marker, he seized control with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining and was driven out inside the final eighth to assert for a career high. “He's got a great attitude and handled that ground well,” explained winning rider Ryan Moore. “He jumped out smoothly, but it was one of those races where everything didn't go exactly as I had planned. He does everything right and, hopefully, will keep progressing. I think he could be Group 1 class, he's lightly raced and can only get better. He'll make up into a proper horse in the long term.”

Poet's Word becomes the second black-type winner produced by Listed Harvest S. third Whirly Bird (GB) (Nashwan) and he is a half-brother to G3 Prestige S. and G3 Thoroughbred S. victress Malabar (GB) (Raven's Pass). He is also kin to a yearling filly by Kingman (GB), the hitherto unraced 3-year-old colt Yuno Tesoro (Ire) (Rip Van Winkle {Ire}) and to the winning dam of G2 Railway S. victor Beckford (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}). His third dam is G2 Child S. victress and G1 Coronation S. runner-up Inchmurrin (Ire) (Lomond), whose many black-type descendants include MGSW sire Inchinor (GB) (Ahonoora {GB}), last term's G1 St Leger hero Harbour Law (GB) (Lawman {Fr}) and GI E.P. Taylor S. heroine Miss Keller (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}).
