'Pharoah' Remains Atop WBR Rankings

American Pharoah | Sarah K Andrew

Despite victories over the past month by Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}), Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) retains a rating of 131 and remains atop the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings.

While the Zayat Stables runner is on track for a career-ending run in the GI Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland Oct. 31, Golden Horn has kept a busier schedule, with victories in the G1 Irish Champion S. at Leopardstown and more recently in the G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp. He is rated one pound inferior to American Pharoah and is seven points clear of Free Eagle (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) in the intermediate turf category. Golden Horn is currently under consideration for a start in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf on Halloween.

Treve, winner of the G1 Prix Vermeille Sept. 13, was retired from racing following her fourth-place effort behind Golden Horn when looking for a third consecutive victory in the Arc. She sits on a rating of 126 and is therefore rated three points superior to Flintshire (GB) (Dansili {GB})– who filled the runner-up spot in the Arc for the second straight year–in the long turf category.

Though he is unraced since his unplaced effort behind Solow (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}) in the G1 Queen Anne S. at Royal Ascot this past June, Hong Kong-based Able Friend (Aus) (Shamardal) is the world's highest-rated miler on 126, with Solow a point behind. With an eye on a title defense in the G1 Longines Hong Kong Mile Dec. 13, Able Friend is tentatively scheduled to make his seasonal reappearance in the Premier Bowl H. over 1200 meters Oct. 25. Solow is pointing for the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. at Ascot Oct. 17.

Australian galloper Lankan Rupee (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) holds the mantle of world's top-rated turf sprinter on a rating of 123 pounds. The 6-year-old, winner last season of the G1 Manikato S. and G1 Lightning S., will make his first start off a six-month hiatus in Saturday's 1100-meter G2 Schillaci S. at Caulfield. Brazen Beau (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}) is next on 120. The dirt sprint category is led by Private Zone (Macho Uno), who makes his next appearance in the GI Breeders' Cup Sprint at Keeneland.
