Owner and Breeder June McKnight Passes Away at 98

Owner and breeder June McKnight passed away at her home in Kennett Square, P.A., Tuesday at the age of 98. A lifelong horse lover, McKnight was a daughter of NYRA President and Chairman John Hanes. She campaigned steeplechasers for many years with trainer D.M. Smithwick and bred European champion and two-time G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Alleged. McKnight is survived by three children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services are private, but donations can be made in her name to the National Steeplechase Foundation or the United States Equestrian Foundation, earmarked for eventing.
