Observations: June 17, 2017

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Today's Observations features a Chantilly maiden with firsters for the Wertheimers', Godolphin and Juddmonte.

1.20 Chantilly, Mdn, €25,000, unraced 3yo, 8f (AWT)

ATOMIQUE (IRE) (Galileo {Ire}), a Carlos Laffon-Parias trainee, is out of 2006 G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and G1 Prix d'Astarte runner-up Impressionnante (GB) (Danehill) and is thus a full-sister to 2013 G1 Prix du Jockey Club-winning sire Intello (Ger). Alain and Gerard Wertheimer's homebred chestnut faces eight fellow newcomers which include Godolphin's Ballet Dress (Hard Spun">Hard Spun), who is an Andre Fabre-trained half to 2013 GI Ballerina S. third Villanesca (Distorted Humor) out of 2004 GI Frizette S. victress Balletto (UAE) (Timber Country); and Khalid Abdullah homebred Alexandrite (GB) (Oasis Dream (GB)">Oasis Dream {GB}), who is a half-sister to 2014 G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud victor Epicuris (GB) (Rail Link {GB}), from the Criquette Head-Maarek stable.

4.40 York, Mdn, £12,000, 2yo, 6fT

ARBALET (IRE) (Dark Angel {Ire}) was a €370,000 foal at Goffs November and is a son of the G1 Moyglare Stud S. winner Miss Beatrix (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) whose Jally (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}) was group-placed at two. Hugo Palmer saddles Ibrahim Araci's April-foaled grey, who meets eight rivals on this debut.
