Notable US-Breds in Japan: Nov. 26, 2017

In this ongoing series, Alan Carasso takes a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. With the main focus on Sunday's G1 Japan Cup at Tokyo, there is a good deal of American-bred interest in the early races on that program and later on in the afternoon at Kyoto, where a Frankel sophomore goes for four in a row:

1st-TOK, ¥9,550,000 ($86k), Maiden, 2yo, 1400mT
SEIUN AKAMAI (f, 2, Animal Kingdom–Yachats, by Forest Camp) turned in a promising career debut over this course and distance Oct. 29, finishing third over an unusually heavy racetrack (video, gate 4). The chestnut, a $100K KEESEP yearling turned $220K OBSAPR breezer, is out of a stakes-placed dam who is already responsible for Grade III-placed juvenile filly La Song (Unbridled's Song). The extended female family includes GISW and freshman sire Currency Swap (High Cotton). B-Pollock Farms, T & C Kentucky Inc & Arthur Maberry (KY)

2nd-TOK, ¥9,550,000 ($86k), Maiden, 2yo, 1600m
Similar to his female countepart above, BATTLE MEISTER (c, 2, Bodemeister–Elusive Horizon, by Elusive Quality) turned in a strong effort in his first trip to the races, going down to a narrow defeat at the hands of fellow US-bred Swing Beat (Tapit–Backseat Rhythm) over track and trip Nov. 11 (video, gate 4). His five-time SW dam is a half to GSW & GISP Super Ninety Nine (Pulpit) while his third dam bred MGISW Exogenous (Unbridled). A $150K KEENOV weanling, he was RNAd for $170K at KEESEP in 2016 and fetched $250K at OBSAPR this spring. B-Northwest Farms LLC (KY)

7th-KYO, ¥19,950,000 ($179k), Allowance, 3yo/up, 1200m
HONEY JADE (f, 3, Harlan's Holiday–Hard Hat, by Hard Spun) has found a home on the main track, having broke her maiden in her first start over the surface back in June (video, gate 15) ahead of a runner-up effort in August and a second dirt score when last seen Sept. 9 (video, gate 5). The $130K FTKJUL yearling acquisition, who is out of an unplaced half-sister to GISW Albert the Great (Go for Gin), was hammered down for $300K at the FTFMAR sale in 2016. 10th-KYO, ¥34,620,000 ($311k), Allowance, 3yo/up, 1400mT
The regally bred MOZU ASCOT (c, 3, Frankel (GB)&log=">Frankel {GB}–India, by Hennessy) was a competitive fourth in each of his first two career starts, but has since rattled off three straight, including allowance scores at Hanshin in September (video, gate 17) and a latest tally at Tokyo Nov. 11 (video, gate 5). A $275K RNA at KEESEP, he is out of a dual graded-stakes winning mare who has also produced stakes-winning 'TDN Rising Star' Kareena (Medaglia d'Oro). India is kin to SW Pilfer (Deputy Minister), the dam of MGISWs To Honor and Serve (Bernardini) and Angela Renee (Bernardini) and SW & GISP Elnaawi (Street Sense). B-Summer Wind Farm (KY)
