In this continuing series, Alan Carasso takes a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. With the postponement of racing Saturday and Sunday in Tokyo due to the pending arrival of a typhoon, here are the horses of interest Sunday at Kyoto and for Monday at both Toyko and Kyoto:

MOZU AUNT MO (f, 2, Uncle Mo&log=">Uncle Mo–A Footstep Away, by Giant's Causeway) turned in a very promising debut effort over this trip at Hanshin Sept. 14, finishing second by 1 1/4 lengths after leading late (see below, gate 4). The $200K Keeneland September yearling, a half to SW Two Thirty Five (Stay Thirsty), is out of a daughter of GSW At The Half (Seeking the Gold), dam of MGSW & MGISP Lu Ravi (A.P. Indy) and granddam of champion and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Halfbridled (Unbridled). B-Springhill Farm (KY)

JET MAX (c, 2, Goldencents–Song'n Dance, by Carson City) has finished second in two of his three trips to this point, including his dirt debut going this distance at Hanshin Sept. 28. A $72K KEESEP yearling turned $100K OBS March breezer, Jet Max is a half to the SP trio of John's Success (Colonel John), Catsadiva (Tale of the Cat) and Message (Warrior's Reward), recently third in the Beverly Lewis S. at Los Alamitos. 5th-TOK, ¥13,400,000 ($124k), Newcomers, 2yo, 1800mT
COSMO KU (c, 2, Declaration of War–Memories for Us, by Street Cry {Ire}) was produced by an unraced daughter of 1996 GI QE II Challenge Cup winner Memories of Silver (Silver Hawk), whose produce include MGISW Winter Memories (El Prado {Ire}), dam of SW & MGSP 'TDN Rising Star' Winter Sunset (Tapit); GSW La Cloche (Ghostzapper), dam of GSW Bellevais (Tapit); and SWs British Blue (Storm Cat) and War Trace (Storm Cat). This is also the family of GSW 'Rising Star' Hawkish (Artie Schiller) and fellow 'Rising Star' Red Lodge (Midshipman). A $20K KEENOV weanling, Cosmo Ku was acquired for €35K as a Goffs Orby yearling last fall. B-Robert Nataf, Joe Allen & Tim Thornton (KY)

12th-TOK, ¥14,250,000 ($131k), Allowance, 3yo/up, 1400m
PIONEER BAROWS (c, 3, Cairo Prince&log=">Cairo Prince–Dattts Lady Di, by Proud Citizen) failed to see out 1800m trips in his first to visits to the races, but jumped up when cutting back to 1200m to graduate by a head at Niigata when last seen July 27. A half-brother to SP Lindy (War Front), dam of the promising Japanese-based La La Chrysaor (Speightstown), Pioneer Barows was a $110K KEENOV weanling, $175K KEESEP buyback and $400K Fasig-Tipton Florida 2-year-old in training.
