New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program will host its annual Open Barn and BBQ Event Apr. 27 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. To be held at New Vocations' Lexington facility on Mereworth Farm, guests can tour the facility and meet adoptable horses. The evening will include a Southern-style dinner, drinks and live music, followed by an hour-long educational demonstration in the indoor arena. Adoptable horses will be presented in-hand, after which professional horsemen will discuss a Thoroughbred's life experiences, including farm life, sales prep, breaking and track life, as well as how New Vocations prepares retired racehorses for second careers. A Q&A session on off-track Thoroughbred behavior will round out evening. Guest of honor Donna Brothers will moderate the sessions. For more information and for tickets, visit newvocations.org.
