Starlight Racing owns a spot in the starting gate of the Jan. 28 GI Pegasus World Cup and could have a candidate to fill that berth in graded stakes placed Neolithic (Harlan's Holiday), who is entered in an allowance at Gulfstream Park Wednesday.
“Starlight owns a gate, so we'll see how he runs on Wednesday,” trainer Todd Pletcher said.
Neolithic, who broke his maiden going 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream last December, was sidelined eight months before finishing second in a Saratoga allowance in August. Most recently he added blinkers and stretched out past a mile for the first time since his maiden win to finish second in the Nov. 12 GIII Discovery S.
“I think he's a better horse than his form suggests,” Pletcher said. “That's why we ran him in the Discovery even though he's still eligible for a one-other-than [allowance].”
Javier Castellano has been named to ride Neolithic, who breaks from the rail in Wednesday's 1 1/16-mile allowance.
