The William Haggas trained Mutakayyef (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) is the star name among 11 potential starters for the G3 Betway Winter Derby S. at Lingfield on Saturday. Although the 6-year-old will have to concede a minimum of 5lb to his rivals, he does boast the strongest credentials based on some of his turf form from last summer. His last run at Woodbine in September saw him beaten just three quarters of a length by the brilliant Tepin (Bernstein) when third in the GI RICOH Woodbine Mile S. Previous to that, he occupied the same slot behind another world-class performer in Postponed (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G1 Juddmonte International at York. The Hamdan Al Maktoum owned gelding's winning form features a defeat of Dutch Connection (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}) in the G2 Summer Mile at Ascot and potential opponents on Saturday include last year's winner and all-weather specialist Grendisar (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who has posted seven of his 10 career wins at Lingfield.
