Moscow Flyer Dies

Moscow Flyer | Irish National Stud

Champion steeplechaser Moscow Flyer (Ire) (Moscow Society–Meelick Lady {Ire}, by Duky {GB}) has died aged 22 at the Irish National Stud.

Owned by Brian Kearney and trained by Jessica Harrington, Moscow Flyer was a successful hurdler early in his career but truly excelled when switched to chasing. He won the G1 Arkle Chase at Cheltenham in 2002 and returned to that meeting the following year to take the G1 Queen Mother Champion Chase. From April 2001 through April 2005 Moscow Flyer won every race he completed, on four occasions unseating his rider or falling. Moscow Flyer retired in 2006 with two Queen Mother Chase and two Tingle Creek wins. He returned in 2007 to record a popular victory in the Punchestown Festival Charity Flat Race.

Moscow Flyer relocated to the Irish National Stud in 2012 to live out his years among the farm's Living Legends team. There he was able to receive many fans and was also the Irish Horse Welfare Trust Equine Ambassador, and made public appearances for the charity.
