More Than Ready Filly Takes Any Limit S. at 1-9

Elevenses | Kenny Martin

Elevenses, pounded at the windows for this return to stakes company, extricated herself from some traffic trouble turning for home and kept on coming to get the job done Saturday afternoon. A romping 10 1/4-length debut scorer in a sloppy, off-the-turf sprint at the Big A in November, the relatively inexpensive KEESEP pick-up settled for fifth as the favorite after a wide trip in the local, restricted Glitter Woman S. Jan. 6. She was adding blinkers and Lasix when she aired by 7 3/4 lengths in a Mar. 4 optional claimer last out.

Away second-last in this compact field of five, Elevenses rushed up to chase the pace from the rail before being shuffled back a bit into the bend. Leading rider Luis Saez maneuvered her four wide out into the clear hitting the top of the stretch, and she kicked home resolutely to reel in Onebrethatatime with a bit of room to spare.

Winning owner Joseph V. Shields also owned and bred this race's namesake, MGSW Any Limit (Limit Out), who was trained by winning conditioner Jimmy Jerkens's father, the late, great H. Allen Jerkens.

“I thought she was still in good shape running up on the inside but then it looked like she wasn't going to be able to get through,” Jerkens said. “It looked like the dirt started hitting her flush in the face. There's always a point where it's hitting them in the chest and if you lose a length or two, it's hitting them right in the face. She started shaking her head. But, Luis is the leading rider and I kind of knew he was going to get it done.”

Elevenses is bred on a version of the More Than Ready–Gone West cross that is also responsible for the likes of champion sprinter Roy H (More Than Ready). Stakes-winning dam Cougarstown sold for $85,000 carrying Elevenses at the 2014 Keeneland November sale. The daughter of MSW Fair Appache has a yearling colt by Graydar and recently foaled a colt by Constitution.
