With just an insignificant seven-furlong win at Strasbourg in September and second in a 7 1/2-furlong conditions event at Saint-Cloud in October to her name, Spectre was understandably one of the lesser lights lining up for this Classic trial but the outsider proved categorically that she had the right material with no hint of fluke to the result. Settled on the outer halfway down the field tracking the pace set by Midweek, the chestnut was delivered by Pierre-Charles Boudot to overhaul that Juddmonte representative 100 metres from the line and assert for the upset. “She had been training nicely for the last three weeks, so we were very confident going into this,” trainer Markus Munch explained. “He loves this ground and Pierre [Boudot] has done a great job with her. All being well, for sure she’ll come back for the G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches [at Deauville May 15].”
