+ZATTER (c, 2, Midnight Lute&log=">Midnight Lute–Katori, by Dixie Union) raced three across the track and pulled clear to earn a convincing debut win Sunday at Del Mar, becoming the fifth winner on the day for his sire. Drawn widest as the 8-5 favorite as stablemate St. Patrick's Day (Pioneerof the Nile)–a full-brother to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah–was sent off at odds of 2-1, Zatter broke sharply and shared the lead with St. Patrick's Day along the rail and third-time starter Jungle Warfare (Animal Kingdom) between horses through fractions of :22.11 and :45.08. Finding more as the field rounded the turn, the Zayat Stables colorbearer shook loose from his two rivals and stayed on well to the wire, reporting home 1 1/2 lengths in front of his stablemate. The winner is a half to stakes-placed Laxfield Road (Quality Road), while dam Katori is herself a half to GI Toyota Blue Grass S. winner Monba (Maria's Mon). Katori produced a Super Saver colt named Barbaroni this year and was bred back to Quality Road. Sales History: $160,000 Ylg '16 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $36,000.
