MGISW Giant Oak Passes Away at Age 11

Giant Oak | Millenium Farms

Dual Grade I winner Giant Oak (Giant's Causeway–Crafty Oak, by Crafty Prospector) passed away Mar. 1 due to complications from a neurological condition. The 11-year-old, a third-crop sire who stood at Millenium Farms in Florida, had not covered any mares yet this year.

“Giant Oak suffered an acute onset of severe neurologic disease,” said Dr. Robert Hunt. “Based on humane grounds, the decision was made to euthanize him.”

Bred and raced by Virginia H. Tarra Trust, the chestnut's career was highlighted by wins in the 2010 GI Clark H. and 2011 GI Donn H. The Chris Block trainee retired at the end of 2011 with a record of 31-5-5-6 and earnings of $1,484,829.

Giant Oak has 107 offspring from four crops, including 94 foals of racing age. His first crop included stakes winners Sunny Oak, Whateverybodywants, Bucket Beat and Giant Cruiser.
